The Chekhov Dreams Summary

The Chekhov Dreams: True love never dies. And that’s the problem.

Jeremy’s fiancée has it all. She’s beautiful. She’s smart. She’s captivating. Unfortunately, she’s also dead. But hey, no relationship’s perfect, right? Besides, she visits him every night in his dreams, so what’s to stop them from living happily ever after? Well for one thing, his party boy brother, who’s not at all happy with Jeremy sleeping all day, and who has forced him into signing up for an acting class. And for another, his overly enthusiastic scene partner, with whom he’s stuck working on a scene by Chekhov – the one writer he loathes. Worse yet, her infectious personality is starting to arouse the jealousy of his betrothed, who has just begun to reveal her true powers. His fiancée may be to die for, but will he go that far?

During its development, The Chekhov Dreams earned two NYIT Award nominations (including best original script) as well as a published monologue (Best Men’s Stage Monologues, Smith & Kraus). This world premiere production was written by John McKinney, whose other published work has been seen in numerous short play and monologue anthologies (including Best 10 Minute Plays, also by Smith & Kraus). It is being directed by Leslie Kincaid Burby, winner of both the NYIT and FringeNYC awards for best director and a Drama Desk nominee. And it is being overseen by Tony Award nominated executive producer, Jeremy Handelman of Off the Leash Productions.
