It's true rep for our Repertory Company: We are rotating a full- length play with a double bill of one-acts!
A Walk In The Woods by Lee Blessing:
A Walk In The Woods from 1987 is about one more attempt at a nuclear arms treaty by the world’s super powers, USSR and USA, as humanized by two negotiators on a park bench in Geneva, Switzerland. Not only relevant for today, but a necessary re-visit to the ploys governments will use to keep their destructive power intact.
A Double Bill of One-Acts: A Betrothal and Late Bus to Mecca:
A Betrothal by Lanford Wilson
Originally conceived for Uta Hagen and Herbert Berghof which the playwright called a “lark” of a play, A Betrothal is about a pair of disappointed, middle-aged iris growers who chance meet at a flower show and, after much bickering, discover each other.
Late Bus to Mecca by Pearl Cleage
Pearl Cleage’s Late Bus to Mecca is a very touching ode to black sisterhood. Set in 1971, it’s about a prostitute fleeing ‘the life’ in Detroit and is on her way to Atlanta (the Mecca of the title, and where Ms. Cleage is from). Ava waits for a sister she plans to run away with, but instead meets a younger, homeless woman in the Greyhound bus station.
