Dietrich is a song-filled voyage inside the mind and emotions of the internationally famous German-born Hollywood film star, Marlene Dietrich, whose glamorous allure, pioneering sexuality, and fierce convictions have fascinated generations of Americans. Now this enduring icon of courage and female empowerment - who was light years ahead of her time - is back to inspire a whole new generation.
She wore the pants. She called the shots!
Beginning with Dietrich’s earliest experiences as an actress and cabaret performer in Weimar Germany, Dietrich is a passionate and witty portrait focusing on her inner conflicts and high ambition that drove the actress to forge an unparalleled show business career. Her pioneering sexual ambiguity made Dietrich an audience favorite and to be openly bisexual in the 1940s and ’50s took guts---which Dietrich had in abundance.
“Falling in Love Again,” “The Boys in the Back Room,” “Lili Marlene”—songs indelibly associated with Marlene Dietrich, will be featured in the production as well as “Laziest Gal in Town” and “Puttin’ on the Ritz.”
Staged by veteran director Stephen Stahl, Dietrich stars Justyna Kostek as the internationally famous film artiste. Also featuring Casey Molino Dunn as The Pianist. Written by Oliver Conant & Justyna Kostek.
