War Lovers: an American power play in Southeast Asia.
On February 2, 1972 young college student James David Caine’s birthdate comes up #11 in the very last Vietnam Lottery Draft. His roommate convinces him to enlist to avoid the indignity and helplessness of being drafted. How could James have known that his first trainer in Vietnam had fallen in love with an aristocratic NVA operative named Li Ming Song and planned to defect?
The companion Cable Television series War + Lovers - Making the Musical has been running on MNN (Manhattan Neighborhood Network) for over 3 years with 64 Episodes to date. The series can be seen Thursday evenings at 8 PM on channel 56 (Spectrum) et al, and “streamed” from the website WarLovers.com.
The Story-Line is “semi-autobiographical” as Author-Composer-Performer James Doyle Klier (James David Caine) was included in the Vietnam Lottery Draft of 2-2-1972. Mr. Klier’s birthdate came up #237. His roommate’s came up #11. In the “what if” of this Narrative the numbers are switched.
