As Hedda Gabler begins, summer is gone and Hedda has returned from a six month honeymoon with her academic husband, George Tesman. Hedda, a free spirit terrified of scandal and gossip, tries to settle in to the humdrum, workaday life she does not want. And then the brilliant philosopher Eilert Lovborg unexpectedly re-enter's Hedda's life - with devastating results. The ingeniously imaginative director Ivo van Hove returns to NYTW with Ibsen's masterpiece in an adaptation by Christopher Hampton. Elizabeth Marvel, who won and Obie award for her portrayal of Blanche DuBois in van Hove's production of A Streetcar Named Desire at NYTW, will play Hedda.
