In the blink of an eye, a harmless game transforms from prank to crime when two teenagers kick a rock off a freeway overpass resulting in a fatal car crash. The boys quickly find themselves balancing on a delicate line between mischief and manslaughter during a police investigation that will test their friendship and determine the course of their lives. Inventively staged with minimal props and electric guitars, Zeal Theatre’s two actor/musicians shift seamlessly between adult and teen characters in this powerfully raw and unsettling production.
Inspired by the 1994 death of an Australian motorist, The Stones retraces the events surrounding this tragedy. The highly publicized trial of two Melbourne teens motivated Zeal Theatre to create this award-winning production. The Stones has been performed around the globe to help bring to light the issue of adolescent competitiveness and the reckless behavior it often incites.
Even though the subject matter is very serious, the play is not preachy, and due to the intensity of the play, we felt that it would be better served in the intimate 199-seat The Duke on 42nd Street theater, where the audience and the actors share a closer connection.
Family workshops are now available only to members. Call (646) 223-3020 for information.
Talk Back Performances: At select performances, company members will stick around and answer your questions. For The Stones, all performances are scheduled for talk backs.
