Sparks of fun fly when one of the world’s most celebrated conductors brings his bumbling band of musicians to The New Vic! From his early days at the dinner table artfully orchestrating his peas and carrots, to his screeching debut with the renowned Byzantine Scream Choir, to his recent whirlwind tour of the Far East (well, two cities that we know of), The Baron Rabinovitsj has elevated this elegant art form to heights of hilarity. With his curiously comedic baton, he conducts at lighting speed making you wonder if he has four arms instead of two. Needing the extra pair, he wrangles one very late trombone player, an over-zealous violinist and a checker-playing brass section to perfectly perform his own original melodic masterpiece. Leading an eclectic combination of classical, folk and jazz, The Baron whips everyone into a farcical frenzy that promises to bring down the house – or at least the chandelier.
The Baron and his orchestra put on a “spoof” of a concert that includes several full length original songs, but all performed in a very silly and slapstick style. The onstage banter between musicians occasionally upstages the songs causing hilarious results.
