The New 42nd Street is proud to present Armed and Naked in America: A Naked Angels Issues Project, produced by Naked Angels and Dan Klores at The Duke on 42nd Street theater from April 11 to 22.
Armed and Naked in America is 14 playwrights’ sometimes scathing, sometimes funny, always insightful responses to war. Fourteen separate 10 to 12-minute plays will be presented over 2 weeks. Week 1 features a bill of seven plays by such luminaries as Theresa Rebeck, Jose Rivera, and others; Week 2 features a different set of seven plays by Warren Leight, Kenneth Lonergan, David Rabe, and others. Short videos by some of the city’s hottest sketch comedy groups, music performances, and special guests from the worlds of politics, media, and entertainment will also compliment the evenings. Directors will include Will Frears, Pam MacKinnon, Daniel Aukin, John Gould Rubin, David McCallum, Evan Cabnet, Michelle Tattenbaum, Evan Yionoulis and Marisa Tomei, among others.

Famed author and historian Lewis Lapham will be conducting a post-show discussion at Armed & Naked in America on Wednesday, April 18.
Lewis Lapham is the host and author of the PBS series, America's Century, and he was host of the weekly PBS series, Bookmark. He was the editor of Harper's Magazine until 2006. Most recently, Lapham has founded a quarterly publication on history entitled Lapham's Quarterly. He has also written many books on politics and current affairs, including Waiting for the Barbarians, Lights, Camera, Democracy, Theater of War, Gag Rule, and Pretensions to Empire: Notes on the Criminal Folly of the Bush Administration. His writing has appeared in Life, Commentary, Vanity Fair, National Review, Yale Literary Magazine, ELLE, Fortune, Forbes, American Spectator, New York Times, The Walrus, Maclean's, The Observer (London), and the Wall Street Journal.
The post-show discussion will begin immediately after the performance, which begins at 8 pm.
