An Eastern-European Physics Professor arrives at a mid-west college and teaches reluctant students the scientific way to kick and throw footballs. The school's team prospers and so does the professor's romance. Songs: Once Upon a Time, What a Country!, I've Just Seen Him, Our Children, It's Fun to Think, Our Children.
The Musicals Tonight revivals are "staged concerts". There is a hint of costumes and scenery so that the audience can clearly understand the time and place of the activities on stage. In order to keep ticket prices modest, the normal rehearsal period of 6 weeks is reduced to two weeks and the cast members enter the stage carrying their scripts to which they refer upon occasion. There is live piano accompaniment - no recorded music - no amplification. All the songs and ALL the dialog is included in each of our productions and as a result the average running time is 2 1/2 hours including a 15 minute intermission.
“Musicals Tonight is an admirable shoestring variation on the formula behind the beloved Encores series.” – Ben Brantley, NY Times
“The Musicals Tonight series, as well as the Encores series at City Center, are terrific assets to New York’s theatre scene. Interesting looks backward in addition to being often fine entertainment.” – Bruce Weber, NY Times
