Chinglish Summary

Direct from its sold-out run at Chicago’s Goodman Theatre, Chinglish has made its way to Broadway. (Translation: Get your tickets fast – this one’s going to be hot!) Tony Award® winner David Henry Hwang (M. Butterfly) returns to Broadway with Chinglish, a new comedy about the misadventures of miscommunication.

Directed by Obie Award winner Leigh Silverman (From Up Here, Well) Chinglish is the story of an American businessman desperate to launch a new enterprise in China. There are only three things standing in his way: He can't speak the language. He can't learn the customs. And he's falling in love with the one woman he absolutely can't have.

Chinglish is the hilarious new play where most everything gets lost in translation.

"Sexy and hilarious! A triumph in any language." - New York Magazine

"Wonderfully funny and highly entertaining!" - NY1

"Fresh, energetic and unlike anything else on Broadway. Chinglish is a thoughtful, funny and poignant piece in which, miraculously, nothing gets lost in translation." - Associated Press

"A comic gold mine!" - NY Post

"****" - Time Out New York

"A lethal comedy about business, sex and the failure to communicate that bristles with intelligence." - Bloomberg News

"A zippy study of what gets lost in translation when east meets west, Chinglish is just the ticket!" - The New York Times

Please Note: Chinglish will be performed in both English and Mandarin (with English surtitles).
